🎵 "They'll be wanting me, they'll be asking me, they'll be tempting me to forgive."
This is one of those songs that could mean a few different things because I wrote it to mean one thing in 2016 only to realize it’s true meaning in 2019/2020. Rehearsing it in my kitchen always brought with it an energy that felt like I could definitely break a few dishes with my voice (or at least smash them with my guitar at the end of the song).
It’s not about forgiving or not forgiving someone … “they’ll be tempting me to forgive” .. it’s about forgiving your own morals or giving up on your dreams when you’re forced to be in a world you don’t belong to. I guess as an artist I always felt a little ‘outside of’ normal life, and then going through abuse and trying to heal from it put me ‘further out’ of normal. But nothing has felt quite so foreign as getting 100% healed and becoming a ‘born again’ Christian and then being forced to live out my new life in an old & broken world.
“I don’t know what I’ve become a million miles from home,” and that, “all I know is that I belong to someone else’s world.”
Jesus says, “If you were to give your allegiance to the world, they would love and welcome you as one of their own. But because you won’t align yourself with the values of this world, they will hate you. I have chosen you and taken you out of the world to be mine.”
John 15:19 TPT.
I often talk to Jesus about this because it fascinates me to think we truly are bright lights shining on the darkness, and that at the end of the day, no matter how comfortable and cozy we are thinking ‘oh how wonderful it is that I’m filled with light and love’ we’re expected to go out into the darkness and CONQUER IT.
